SAP ABAP/4 certified consultant - K. S. Kuo - summary of experiences

My SAP experience spans the entire ERP life cycle:  from package evaluation through implementation and operational support.  In addition to my ABAP/4 certification from SAP’s Partner Academy, I am also functionally strong in FI,  SD and MM.  My SAP experience coupled with my previous jobs as MIS manager and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) consultant makes me a valuable asset to any client organization.

I am a U.S. citizen and I am available to travel anywhere in the U.S. and in friendly countries abroad.  Since incorporating myself as an independent consultant in 1986, I have had extended off-site contracts in the U. S., Canada and the Far East.  I speak fluent Mandarin Chinese.  I have consulted via a W-2, 1099 and corp-to-corp.  I live near San Francisco.

My SAP experience started towards the end of 1995.  I was helping my client to evaluate ERP packages from SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft and Baan.  I was an integral part of the team that wrote the RFP and evaluated the responses from the vendors.  By April of 1996 my client chose SAP.

My client then asked me to work with KPMG and Computer Sciences Corporation to arrive at the SAP hardware platform.  I worked closely with both to create the RFP that was sent to Hewlett Packard, Digital Equipment Corporation, Sun and Pyramid.  I was a key member of the team that reviewed the responses from HP, DEC, Sun and Pyramid.

My client’s SAP implementation officially started in September of 1996 and finished in early 1998.  I worked with two other MIS programmers on data migration.  My client’s legacy data was scattered over roughly 255 VMS files.  Our task was to use Cognos (Quiz) to extract the legacy data and use BDC to stuff the data into SAP.  This required familiarity with SAP’s screens, dialog sequences and BDC programming.

By January of 1998 my BDC work was completed.  I spent four very intensive weeks at SAP’s Partner Academy outside of Boston and got myself certified as an independent ABAP/4 consultant in February.  Since then I have been writing ABAP/4 programs as well as creating coding specs for other ABAP/4 programmers in the FI, SD and MM modules.

In 1998 - 1999 I led a team of developers to create a sales commissions system for my client.  The system merged SAP sales data with resales EDI data to create a Business Objects data warehouse.  We used Business Objects extensively to create sales commissions and sales analysis reports.  I designed this commissions system and worked with the client’s executives for their approval and buy-in.  I wrote the SAP code and created the prototype that was used for three commissions cycles to validate my methodology.  I then led a team of programmers to create the production version off my prototype.

In 1999 - 2000 I helped my client to spec, purchase and set up a web server that publishes data from our SAP system and our engineering systems.  I wrote programs using ABAP/4, ColdFusion, Visual C++, Active Server Pages (ASP), VBScript (VBS), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), OLE DB and Crystal Reports.  This system allows any employee in the U.S. and overseas to display or update data by simply using their web browser, In 2001 I worked for a client who was bought out by another international conglomerate. Both sides were using SAP. But there were many differences between their SAP systems and business processes. I wrote programs and worked with both sides to facilitate their merger and acquisition.

In 2001 I helped a client to migrate their SAP system from one company to another company by mapping business processes and data structures from one company to the other.  In 2002 I helped a semiconductor house to implement the Seeburger EDI system as part of their SAP landscape.   I created and tested many EDI maps against SAP IDOCs.  In 2003 I helped a company to migrate their SD module from one company to the other.  I also analyzed a semiconductor manufacturer’s operations and proposed how to integrate their MES system to their SAP system.

In conclusion, I am a certified ABAP/4 consultant who is functionally literate in SD, FI and MM.  I have created systems that merge SAP data with Business Intelligence tools and web publishing technologies.  I can translate the client’s requirements into project plans and coding specs.   I have led project teams and managed MIS departments.  Please refer to my resume for additional details covering my 30 years of professional experience in the areas of ERP and MES.
